Gateway Ratings Summary
ELA 6th to 8th Grade Overview
The myPerspectives curriculum meets expectations for Gateway 2 by offering engaging, appropriately complex texts across genres, organized around coherent themes that support knowledge building and culminate in Performance-Based Assessments. The program integrates reading, writing, speaking, and listening through a research-based design, with strong support for vocabulary, grammar, and evidence-based writing. However, the program includes imbalances in text type, an overreliance on short-form readings, limited discussion protocols, insufficient paragraph-level writing instruction outside of multi-paragraph assignments, and minimal pacing and research guidance. For Gateway 3, the program meets expectations. It provides strong teacher implementation tools and scaffolds for diverse learners, but lacks consistent extension activities for advanced students, consistent grouping guidance, and assessment accommodations. While digital tools and training resources are robust, teacher support for integrating cultural backgrounds and using assessment data remains limited. The program supports literacy development effectively, but would benefit from stronger teacher guidance on discussion facilitation, paragraph-level writing instruction, pacing, and research instruction.
